Kerala Green - South Asian Artist Camp

Just got back from one of the best experiences of my life - Kerala Green. It was inspiring to meet so many great artists from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Srilanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan.

The art camp was held from 16-23 of February at Estuary Island Resort located at Poovar. As the name suggests, it’s a unique place where a lake, river, sea and beach meets.

The eight day camp also allowed us with discussion sessions about contemporary art and the art scene in South Asia. In addition I enjoyed the Indian classical dance presentation (Bharatanatyam and Odyssey ) and contemporary Indian folk music by Raghu Dixit .

However, the best part of the camp was to interact with the artists from different cultural backgrounds, to share our experiences and make new friends.

The paintings we produced at the Art camp will be exhibited in the next Saarc Foreign Ministers Meeting and will travel to all the capital cities of Saarc region. The camp was organized by Seher in collaboration with the Indian Government.

The event was also over the Indian national news channels and papers.

Window of opportunity

In life, every step counts, every path matters, in grabbing the window of opportunity presented along the way.
Each slipper used in the artwork symbolically represents different people with unique identities. The three different pathways taken by the orange slippers represent the choices and options available to each individual. The bundles of slippers that have not taken a path represent the countless numbers of people who are unable to go forward with their lives, which feel rejected or lost. The window in the center and the view seen from it represent hope and opportunity for those who are brave enough to take every single step.
